I appreciate your interest in working with me. I earned my M.Ed. in Counselor Education from North Carolina State University in 2015 and began my career as a school counselor before transitioning into clinical practice. I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC #12732) through the North Carolina Board of Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselors and have been providing therapy services since 2016. I am also an ADHD-Certified Clinical Services Provider (ADHD-CCSP), with specialized experience supporting children, adolescents, and families navigating ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD Level 1), emotional regulation challenges, social skill development, and school-related concerns.
Throughout my career, I have worked with children, adolescents, and adults across a variety of settings, including schools, intensive in-home services, outpatient programs, and private practice. This range of experience allows me to support individuals and families from multiple perspectives while focusing on practical tools that can be applied in everyday life.
My background as a former school counselor also gives me a strong understanding of how school systems function. I have experience working within the Wake County Public School System framework, utilizing MTSS interventions, collaborating with school teams, serving on School Improvement Plan (SIP) teams, and contributing to behavioral intervention planning. I also help parents better understand and navigate the school system, including guidance on IEP and 504 supports, and on how to effectively advocate for their child’s needs.
As a clinical therapist, my goal is to help clients build self-worth and a sense of internal value as a foundation for personal growth. I support individuals in developing greater emotional awareness, self-acceptance, and a sense of belonging. I believe that we must first nurture our fears and internal pain with trust in ourselves in order to respond to life’s challenges with self-love and self-compassion.
Amyra Mah wrote, “When you become vulnerable, feel emotions, and stay true to what you are feeling, you liberate yourself from pain.”
Through this awareness, clients can cultivate a mindset of openness and understanding that enables meaningful change.
Population Served:
I work with children as young as 9 years old, adolescents, and adults.
Areas of Specialization:
Anxiety and Panic Disorders, ADD/ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD Level 1), Childhood and Adolescent Behavioral Issues, including Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Social Skill Development, Couples Counseling, Developmental and Learning Disabilities, Parenting Concerns, School Problems, Stress and Anger Management, Depression and Other Mood Disorders, and Low Self-Esteem. In addition, I offer in home parent coaching.
Therapeutic Approach:
When working with children, adolescents, and adults, I utilize an integrative therapeutic approach that draws from Solution-Focused Therapy while incorporating the philosophy of Existential Therapy and the techniques of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I also
incorporate tools from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), mindfulness practices, meditation, self-compassion-focused therapy, and ADHD coaching strategies.
My work often includes psychoeducation about ADHD and executive functioning, emotional regulation skills, distress tolerance tools, and mindfulness practices that help clients develop greater awareness of thoughts and behaviors that may hold them back. I believe these approaches help individuals build resilience, strengthen self-compassion, and develop practical strategies for navigating everyday challenges.
When working with children, my approach often incorporates play-based and developmentally appropriate interventions to help them express emotions, strengthen coping skills, and improve communication with parents and caregivers. I also work
closely with families to support healthy structure, understanding, and effective parenting strategies.
At the heart of my work is a commitment to helping individuals and families better understand themselves, strengthen their relationships, and develop the skills needed to navigate life’s challenges with greater confidence and compassion.
