Overview: I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate and Certified Rehabilitation Counselor. I earned my Bachelor’s in Psychology and Special Education from High Point University and Master’s in Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I have worked closely with neurodivergent children and adolescents, parents navigating the school system (IEPs, 504s, special programs, etc.), and developing plans for post-high school. I work to bridge the gap between developmental and psychiatric disabilities since they are often co-occurring. I previously worked at Vocational Rehabilitation, helping students and young adults with developmental disabilities prepare for and obtain employment, receive necessary accommodations and connect families with community resources. I want to be able to help my clients apply the skills they learn in our sessions to their everyday life. I believe that everyone can be successful, we just need to find and apply the tools to achieve goals.
Populations: Ages 5+, children, adolescents, young adults, and parents
Areas of Specialization: I specialize in children and adolescents with developmental disabilities like Autism, ADHD, Learning Disabilities, etc., parents of children with developmental disabilities, and anxiety and depression/mood disorders. I also specialize in educational consulting services which is explained below.
Educational Consulting Services: I provide Educational Consulting services (separate from therapy sessions) to families who would like more support when working with the school. I can help facilitate conversations and relationships between schools and families, attend IEP/504 meetings, review plans and assist with researching and choosing programs when developing a plan. Services are developed on a case-by-case basis as everyone’s needs are different. I also can provide 1:1 training to parents and kids about their diagnosis. I have developed “Mental Illnesses and Neurodevelopmental Disabilities Training” (MIND Training) to support kids and families learn about different diagnoses through evidence-based practices, interactive activities and practical applications. Ultimately, I want both the parents and children to understand their diagnosis, accommodations in school, and have the support and confidence to achieve their goals. Please note there is a separate consent and financial agreement for consulting services.
Therapeutic Approaches: My approach to therapy is integrative and person-centered. I use techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused, and Strength-Based. Most importantly, I want to build a strong relationship with my clients to have a safe space to talk openly and honestly. Each person has different needs and together, I want to figure out which approach is best and motivating for them.
